What's actually happening
Most large insurers maintain a network of Direct Repair Program shops. Those shops receive referred work, and in exchange they agree to certain expectations around cost, cycle time, parts and administration. When an adjuster names a shop, that's usually the network at work.
The general rule
In most situations, the vehicle owner chooses the repair facility. Policy terms and applicable law vary, so if you're being told otherwise, that's worth a conversation before you agree to anything.
What to say
"I've already chosen my repair facility. It's Airpark Auto Collision in North Phoenix. Please send the assignment there." That's it. You don't need to argue and you don't need to explain yourself.
